The Novell servers are responsible
for file, print and backup services. This includes storing files on
the server, sharing files, and network printing.
The files on the Novell
servers are backed up every weeknight.
There is a regular maintenance period every week during which time the
server may be down:
EOHSI: Friday 12-1pm
CRESP: Monday 12-1pm
On the Novell Cluster, users have access to several network drives and
directories.
EOHSI shared drive -
S: a shared drive to which everyone at EOHSI has rights contains
faculty vitas and grant forms
Division shared drive: a shared drive to which everyone in
the division has rights
Each division is assigned a drive:
L:=CA
M:=EMAD
N:=EH |
O:=OH
P:=PERC
T:=Tox |
Group shared: a shared directory on the division drive to which
everyone in a group has rights
User directory: a directory to which only the individual user
has rights
Example: John Smith who
works for ENS would see the following network drives and directories:
- S:= EOHSI shared drive
- L:=CA drive
- L:\CA shared
- L:\ENS
- L:\ENS\ENS shared
- L:\ENS\John
We can create additional
directories and customized rights for each group.
We encourage you to make
use of the server for storing important files. You may also want to
back up critical files to another source (eg hard drive, zip drive).
The EOHSI server has redundant drive capabilities and hot swapping capabilities,
which means that in the event of a drive failure we do not have to bring
the server down to replace the drives. The server also has an automatic
backup program which backs up all the data files Monday - Friday nights.
The server can be used to
facilitate file sharing with other people in EOHSI, your division, or
your group. Located in the EOHSI shared directory are faculty cv's,
grant forms, and the Multimedia directory. You can use the multimedia
directory when you have files that you want to use from the Multimedia
lab. Instead of having to bring your files on a floppy or zip drive,
just copy them into the Multimedia directory. They will then be accessible
from the lab. Don't forget to delete the files when you are done with
them. These shared directories will be cleaned out regularly.
If you have any questions
about using the servers, or the setup of the directories on the server,
please contact Mario Rodriguez.
